A portrait series, built like a magazine.
Each woman gets a full session at my studio in San Clemente. Hair and makeup, a custom mood board built around her business, behind-the-scenes videos, and a feature in She Means Business Orange County - the print magazine launching at the close of the campaign.
All twenty-five women come together for the first Gallery Night at the close of the campaign. Partners are invited. Portraits are exhibited and friends will be made.

Twenty years behind the camera.
I’m Julie Boucher. I’ve spent the last twenty years photographing people through every season of life — growing families, businesses, milestones, and the beautifully chaotic years in between.
My San Clemente studio was built to feel welcoming, relaxed, and fully taken care of, with a small team that helps create a seamless experience from beginning to end.
Most of my clients tell me they’re nervous about being photographed. By the end, they’re usually saying, “That was actually fun.” Honestly, that’s one of my favorite parts of the job.

What is She Means Business Orange County?
She Means Business Orange County is an inaugural personal branding portrait campaign for 25 women entrepreneurs based on Orange County, California. Photographed by Julie Boucher of Julie Irene Photography in San Clemente, each participant receives a magazine-style session, professional hair and makeup, a feature in the first edition magazine, and an invitation to Gallery Night at the close of the campaign.
Who can apply?
Women entrepreneurs, business owners, and leaders based in Orange County. Self-employed, partnered, executive. All welcome. The campaign is open to any stage of business.
How does selection work?
Twenty-five spots, filled in the order applications come in. I review each one to make sure your goals fit what this experience delivers, and we get on a quick call before booking.
What does the day look like?
Two to three hours total. Hair and makeup first, then the session. You'll bring three to four outfits, and we'll plan them together at the consultation. I keep my hair and makeup artist on set the whole time so we can adjust between looks.
What if I'm not photogenic?
Most of my clients say that on the first call. Then they see their images. Posing, lighting, and direction do most of the work. You don't need to lose weight, change your hair, or wait until you feel ready. You'll look like you, on a great day.
What do I wear?
We'll plan it together at the pre-session consultation. You'll get a custom mood board and access to my studio wardrobe.
Where will the photos be used?
Yours, however you want. Website, social, press, print, wall art. You'll also be featured in the inaugural She Means Business Orange County magazine and at the first Gallery Night when the campaign ends.
What is the magazine, exactly?
A first-edition print publication featuring all twenty-five women in this campaign. Distributed at Gallery Night, sent home with participants, and made for you to give to clients and prospects. Issue One launches when the campaign ends.

This is what an extended family session actually looks like before you see the final images.
Two strobes on the beach are a must with this many people if you plan on getting that gorgeous sunset perfect. Twenty-some people in eucalyptus trees requires hauling some stools.
Then you have me trying to get everyone to look the same direction at the same time, which never happens.... but good thing I know how to head swap!

Yesterday I took a mental break. I’ve been dealing with some perimenopause symptoms for the last few years and the worst part of it all has been my sleep.
2am. Wide awake. Again.
my mind goes from thing to thing – nothing important, not one clear thought I could actually grab onto. I’m laying there doing breathing exercises, hoping that will help but sometimes that just makes me more aware that I’m still awake. My heart’s going a little faster than it should be. I’ve read enough about cortisol at this point to understand why, but understanding something and being able to fix it are two different things.
I have been doing everything. Functional medicine appointments, every few months, bloodwork, daily workouts because they’re supposed to help, supplements I could fill a small cabinet with. I just received a cooling mattress pad last week in hopes that will help as well. I cut off all caffeine after 10 AM. Even warm showers at night. Next step I’m gonna consider acupuncture.
Some months are great. Then all of a sudden weeks will go by without one good night sleep.
The thing that nobody told me about Perry menopause is that it’s different for everybody. Nobody hands you and manual, and most of the advice you get doesn’t actually apply to you.
I’m figuring it out. Slowly. Some nights are better than others.
If you’re in the same place, I generally love to know what’s helping you. I’m sharing this for another reason then I know I’m not the only one lying awake at 2 AM doing math and how many hours of sleep I can still get.
The women who book She Means Business sessions are usually the ones who have been doing kick ass things for years and still don`t have images that show for it.
They`ve got speaking gigs, writing books, and clients who trust them — and a headshot from 2016 they`re quietly embarrassed by every time they have to use it.
The session is a full day at my San Clemente studio. Hair and makeup. Multiple looks. Behind-the-scenes footage they can use for their businesses. A feature in the She Means Business Orange County magazine at the end of the campaign. As well as an invitation to the campaign-end Gallery Exhibition.
