I'm Julie Boucher. I don't have history in Mission Viejo the way I do in some of these cities, but I know exactly where a session actually works here, and it isn't the lake most people assume they can use.

Family Photography in Mission Viejo
Most people assume Mission Viejo is named for a mission that's still standing somewhere nearby. It isn't. In 1776, Spanish friars tried to found Mission San Juan Capistrano on this site, but a lack of water forced them to move about five miles away to where the mission stands today. The exact spot of that first attempt is reportedly lost to history. "Mission Viejo," old mission, is what's left of it.
Lake Mission Viejo is the thing most visitors picture when they hear the city's name, but it's entirely private, badge access only through the homeowners' association, and not something I can bring a session to unless you personally have lake privileges. Oso Viejo Community Park is where I actually shoot, along the Oso Creek Trail, with a butterfly garden and a genuinely fun plant maze that gives kids something to do between photos instead of just standing still.
For food afterward, Piccolino Ristorante comes up again and again as a real local favorite for Italian, the kind of place people return to for years rather than just try once.

Oso Viejo Community Park's trail and open lawn give a large group real room to spread out, which matters more than people expect once grandparents, siblings, and cousins are all trying to fit into the same frame.
If your family does have Lake Mission Viejo access, I'm glad to shoot there instead. It just isn't something I can offer as a general public option the way the park is.

Do you have a studio in Mission Viejo, or do I need to drive to San Clemente?

Where does the name Mission Viejo come from?

Can I take family photos at Lake Mission Viejo?

Lake Mission Viejo is entirely private, member-badge access only through the Lake Mission Viejo Association, and it isn't open to the public for sessions. Oso Viejo Community Park and the Oso Creek Trail are the public alternative I use instead.
What is the investment for a family session?

How far in advance should we book a family session?

Do you photograph extended family and multi-generational sessions too?

What's the difference between a family session and an extended family session?

An extended family session brings in grandparents, siblings, cousins, and multiple generations at once, which usually calls for a larger location and a different flow, but it's built the same way: fully guided, from consultation to the finished wall art.
How many people can you photograph in an extended family session?

On-location works well too, especially at the Regional Park.
What ages do you photograph for family sessions?

This is what an extended family session actually looks like before you see the final images.
Two strobes on the beach are a must with this many people if you plan on getting that gorgeous sunset perfect. Twenty-some people in eucalyptus trees requires hauling some stools.
Then you have me trying to get everyone to look the same direction at the same time, which never happens.... but good thing I know how to head swap!

Yesterday I took a mental break. I’ve been dealing with some perimenopause symptoms for the last few years and the worst part of it all has been my sleep.
2am. Wide awake. Again.
my mind goes from thing to thing – nothing important, not one clear thought I could actually grab onto. I’m laying there doing breathing exercises, hoping that will help but sometimes that just makes me more aware that I’m still awake. My heart’s going a little faster than it should be. I’ve read enough about cortisol at this point to understand why, but understanding something and being able to fix it are two different things.
I have been doing everything. Functional medicine appointments, every few months, bloodwork, daily workouts because they’re supposed to help, supplements I could fill a small cabinet with. I just received a cooling mattress pad last week in hopes that will help as well. I cut off all caffeine after 10 AM. Even warm showers at night. Next step I’m gonna consider acupuncture.
Some months are great. Then all of a sudden weeks will go by without one good night sleep.
The thing that nobody told me about Perry menopause is that it’s different for everybody. Nobody hands you and manual, and most of the advice you get doesn’t actually apply to you.
I’m figuring it out. Slowly. Some nights are better than others.
If you’re in the same place, I generally love to know what’s helping you. I’m sharing this for another reason then I know I’m not the only one lying awake at 2 AM doing math and how many hours of sleep I can still get.
The women who book She Means Business sessions are usually the ones who have been doing kick ass things for years and still don`t have images that show for it.
