When to Book Your Maternity Photos in Orange County

The Perfect Timing for Maternity Portraits

Most expectant moms have wondered, “When is the best time to book my maternity photography session?” It’s one of the most common questions I get asked from expecting moms when they fill out my inquiry form. The answer to this question can make all the difference in the world between feeling amazing and radiant or blah with swollen ankles and a waddle.

The sweet spot for the best time to take your maternity photos is typically between 28 and 34 weeks of pregnancy. At this stage of your pregnancy, your bump has that gorgeous round shape, you’re still moving comfortably and your energy levels are steady enough to enjoy the process and feel beautiful. With that being said, every pregnancy is unique, but this window of time does tend to capture the beauty of motherhood perfectly.

Pro Tip: The best time to BOOK your session is during your second trimester to secure your preferred date and access to my curated studio wardrobe.

Why Early Booking Creates a Better Experience

Your maternity portrait experience should never feel rushed. When you book early, you make sure to get on the calendar at a date that works best for you. You’ll have time to plan the perfect wardrobe and be sure to get our hair and makeup artist reserved.

At my San Clemente maternity photography studio, I handle all the prep work for you. We’ll schedule a design consultation where we’ll go over your personal style, color palette and the overall feel of your portraits. This is where we’ll select the location and choose your wardrobe. You’ll have access to my maternity client closet with 100s of dresses to choose from for your maternity portraits.

Studio vs. Beach: What fits Your Style

Whether you are wanting a fine-art studio maternity session or a Southern California sunset beach session, Orange County offers endless options to match your style.

  • Studio Sessions: These can be done at any time of the date since we are not reliant on the sun or weather. You’ll have constant access to my studio wardrobe and 100s of backdrops options at our fingertips.
  • Beach Sessions: These are gorgeous and are planned around the sunset time as well as the tide schedule to make sure we have the most gorgeous portraits for your maternity session. You’ll still have access to my studio wardrobe, but a maximum of 3 dresses can be used for outdoor sessions.

If you’re unsure which direction feels right for you, don’t worry – that’s what our consultation is for. Together, we’ll choose the look that best compliments you and your family’s taste and style.

The Luxury Difference: Stress-Free and Styled

Most of my clients are busy, accomplished women who want everything taken care of, and that’s exactly what I do for them. From coordinating hair and makeup to providing a curated gown wardrobe, my goal is to make this experience as smooth, relaxing and stress-free as possible.

When you arrive at the studio, the lighting and backdrops are ready, the wardrobe is cleaned and steamed, and every detail will be handled for you. You simply arrive ready to be pampered and let me guide the posing so you look gorgeous form every angle.

When to Reach Out

If you’re in your second trimester (around 12 to 24 weeks), now is the perfect time to book your maternity portraits. This allows plenty of time for styling, planning and choosing the perfect date that aligns with your vision and works for you and your family.

Because each session is custom and I only accept a limited number of portrait clients each month, early booking ensures that your spot is reserved. Your maternity portraits should feel like an experience, not a chore – and that experience starts the moment you inquire with me.

Next Steps: Let’s Create Something Breathtaking

Your maternity portraits will become part of your family’s story, one that your little baby will absolutely treasure one day.

Book Your Consultation Today and let’s design your luxury maternity photography experience at my San Clemente studio or at one of Orange County’s gorgeous beaches.

Summer is almost upon us. This is the time of year the whole family may actually be in the same place.

Cousins running around and having fun. The grandparents getting all their hugs and snuggles in with the grandkids. Someone is grilling and there is always that one complaining about the sand or heat. And sadly, nobody has thought about portraits — because why would they? The moment feels infinite.

It isn't.

I've been photographing families for almost 20 years, and the sessions I think about most are the extended family ones. Not because they are the most complicated to coordinate (they are), but because I feel they are the most important. From personal experience I had these done before my father passed and those photos I treasure the most.

If your family is together this summer, it's worth a conversation with everyone to make it happen.

My studio is in San Clemente. Sessions booked by retainer, and summer fills faster than people expect. If you've been thinking about reaching out, the sooner the better.
This studio session brought four generations into one room. The daughter who organized it got everyone together before her niece flew back to Idaho with a baby due in June. Sessions like this don't happen on accident. Studio or beach, the harder part is getting everyone in the same place. If yours is going to be in one place this year, this is the kind of session it makes.
